Dubai Metro: Expansion and New Lines by 2030
In line with its ambitious transportation network expansion plan, Dubai is set to significantly extend its metro network by 2030. This project includes extending existing lines and adding new ones to serve key areas of the city. Here is a detailed overview of the upcoming developments.
Existing Line Extensions
Red Line The Red Line of the Dubai Metro will be extended to improve connectivity along major transport corridors. This extension will serve additional areas and provide direct connections to important commercial and residential hubs.
Green Line The Green Line will also be extended to cover more residential and commercial neighborhoods. This extension aims to reduce congestion and provide an efficient alternative transport option for residents.
New Lines
Blue Line The Blue Line is one of the major new additions to the metro network. Scheduled to start in 2024 and complete by 2029, it will cover 30 kilometers, including 15.5 kilometers underground and 14.5 kilometers on the surface. It will feature 14 stations, including interchange points with the Red and Green lines. The areas served include:
- Dubai International Airport (DXB)
- Mirdif
- Al Warqa
- International City
- Dubai Silicon Oasis
- Academic City
- Ras Al Khor Industrial Area
- Dubai Creek Harbour
- Dubai Festival City
These stations will enable faster and more convenient travel for residents and visitors.
Purple Line The Purple Line is designed to link Dubai’s two main airports, Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), following Al Khail Road. Expected to be completed by 2030, this 49-kilometer line will use high-speed trains capable of reaching 160 km/h. It will include cars with extra luggage space, ideal for air travelers.
Pink Line The Pink Line, another proposed line, will run along the east-west axis of the city with a terminus at Al Sufouh. This line will enhance connectivity between residential areas and commercial hubs, supporting urban development.
Yellow or Gold Line The Yellow or Gold Line will connect Arabian Ranches, Deira, and Dubai Marina, providing a fast and efficient transport alternative for these key areas. This line is designed to facilitate movement between residential neighborhoods and major business and entertainment centers.
